Section 21 Notice to Quit.

Yesterday I received the above from the Managing Agent asking me to vacate the premises by December 1st.
However in July I received a renewal notice effective from 1st August 2018......
"The Landlord has confirmed that they are happy to go ahead with an extension for a further 6 months, the rent will remain at £295 pcm"
Have they dropped a bollock here as they are claiming it is a Periodic Tenancy on the Section 21Notice which requires 2 Months Notice and contradicts the fixed term specified in the renewal notice.
A bit confused - how can you offer someone another 6 months in writing and and less than 2 months later say you want them out in 2 months meaning only a total of 4 months has elapsed since the renewal.

I have, but under a Section 21 Notice they don't have to give a reason.
My point is they extended the initial 6 month tenancy by offering a six month renewal in writing and are now trying to get me out on the basis of it being a Periodic Tenancy.0 -

Did both you and the landlord (or an agent acting on his behalf) sign a new 6 month fixed term AST in July? Yes or no?0

A Section 21 is not a notice to quit. It is notice that the landlord might go to court to request a possession order. Plenty of things can invalidate a Section 21. Read G_M's Ending/Renewing an AST: what happens when a fixed term ends? How can a LL or tenant end a tenancy? What is a periodic tenancy?0

either you have a written tenancy agreement to Dec or you do not. That cannot be anything other than a matter of fact.I have, but under a Section 21 Notice they don't have to give a reason.

You apparent lack of understanding of what a S21 actually means suggests you may not understand what you actually have got in terms of your tenancy?0 -

Sorry about the delay in responding I am currently working Nights and have just got up - thanks to those trying to help.
In order to clarify things I will detail the history of my Tenancy in the Property.
March 2017 moved in signing an AST for 6 Months. Carried on living there with no further renewal from Letting Agent until January 2018 when a new Letting Agent took over.
The new Letting Agent asked me to sign a new AST which I did on January 29th. As I mentioned in July they sent me a renewal asking if I would like to stay on for a further six months from 1st August.
Yesterday I received the "Notice Requiring Possession : Periodic Tenancy" (Periodic Section 21 (4) (a)0 -
Did you receive a new agreement in July?!?!?!0

Did you receive a new agreement in July?!?!?!
No, I signed and returned their invitation renew the tenancy for a further six months.
Are you saying as I didn't get a new AST it has now become a periodic tenancy and therefore they can renege on the invitation to stay for a further six months ?0
