This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone
I only realised when I read what I had posted yesterday back early this morning that I haven’t properly explained what is happening with my treatment, and that I inadvertently gave the impression that I was going to have the surgery next week.
Unfortunately, since the diagnosis I haven’t been coping and my mental health has been deteriorating, with me becoming very depressed again to the point where the professionals involved with my care are now concerned. Because of this I am going into a psychiatric unit until I have the surgery in about four weeks. I’m not keen on going back into a psychiatric unit but to be honest, deep down I know that I need to be there and it is better to go in as a voluntary patient rather than get Sectioned.
The plan is, that when I am discharged from the general hospital I will go back to the psychiatric unit until my mood is stable, and then come back home to recuperate.
So, on to today. I am going to go and get some shopping this morning and quite fancy going out to another town again. I find that a change of scene helps how I feel, and takes my mind off of everything a bit.
I need to have a quick dust and vacuum through this afternoon, and want to try and sort out the linen cupboard if I still have any energy left.
Thinking of the TAs.
RosyRed I hope that you enjoyed your lunch and catch up with your cousins.
Hopefully your cold is getting a bit better AOD.
Organza_Lace I hope that you are recovering now.
I hope that the netball festival went well Camelot.
Redruby I’m not surprised that you enjoy Thursdays, those clients sound lovely and great to be around.
Good luck with the interview Specky.
Taff I’m glad that the chemo went ok, and you don’t feel too bad today. I was pleased to read that your fingers feel ok.
JackieO I’ve got a few books to read, but I’m really into reading and go through them so fast. Something else to add to my list.
Nannywindow pleased to hear that your dad was on his best behaviour yesterday, it makes is so much more pleasant for all of you.
Pleased to hear that your husband is ok Mrs Salad Days. I hope that he has a quick smooth recovery.
I hope that the netball tournament went well Camelot and that you managed to catch up on some work yesterday afternoon.
I hope that you all have decent day whatever you are up to.0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.
Thank you for explaining what is happening Holly, I had thought you were going straight for treatment but I think you have made a really good decision even if it is a bit scary. You do need as much support and a bit of looking after following the surgery and this way, that will be available for you. A close friend had breast cancer treatment a few years ago and I know how much help she needed in the early days. Once you are on the way to recovery, you'll be able to manage so much more easily at home. And we'll all be with you in spirit.
Organza_Lace, good to know your insides are returning to normal and thank you for the links, very inspiring.
I am much better but still sniffing and sneezing. My one planned activity of the week was a Macmillan coffee morning today but I can't really go to that as the guests would be getting coffee, cake and a side order of germs. I can just make a donation though I would have liked cake and chatting.
As ever thinking of the TA family and of all of us who are struggling with illness or worries. Has anyone heard from Poppy? I had a feeling that she was on holiday but I must admit to being easily confused.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Good news Mrs SDand taff.
Sounds like a good day TA.
Wishing you all the best Holly, that's very brave of you.
Everyone had a good time at netball yesterday but we didn't do very well! Didn't get much work done as the systems were playing up, hey-ho there's always today although we have a Macmillan coffee morning today with parents invited so I doubt much will get done apart from eating cake.
My case is packed, only clothes to take for the weekend so travelling light this time. Really looking forward to seeing DS1, his GF and the new kitchen!
Have a happy Friday and a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning
Up and at it this morning I want to get the bedding washed whilst we are still having nice weather so spare is in and mine will be next. Yesterday was beautiful and yes I did get to sit outside for a while and enjoy what could well be our last hot day.
Still lots of bits of work to do so really want to crack on with that today and stop being the expert procrastinator that I am. Course to run tonight so may as well make the most of a long day. Asda arriving at 8 ish not much this week just weekend fruit and veg supplies and cleaning stuff as I so need to eat out of the freezer as much as poss to make some room.
Tea yesterday was soup and a bacon caesar salad and tonight will be somat currently frozen.
Nothing much else its a dull one today again
Thinking of the TAs and hope today is a good day for you all
Have a great Friday everyone0 -
Morning Everyone,
Thinking of you Holly, but you have made a wise decision to go there first before your treatment.
Thinking of the TA's.
Welcome back Organza_Lace
Thinking of everyone else too.
Not posted much as nothing exciting happening, apart from work, clearing out my DM's house .

Good morning, and it's achilly one - 6 degrees, but dry and fine.
Thank you Holly for starting off.
I'm sorry to hear that your mental health has deteriorated so badly, but it's so sensible to go into the unit now, and as you say, not wait to be sectioned.
I know from my own experience what a shock the cancer diagnosis is, it's frightening.
Wishing you well.
Glad you're over the worst Organza - I find rehydration sachets a big help in these circumstances. Your "Blackun" is still managing then, it's wonderfu how animals cope. I suppose they don't have the "worrying" capacity that we do, so don't look into the furure, just accept what happens as it happens.
Camelot, enjoy your weekend.
Nelski, how's your eye? Any more mystery injuries incurred during th night?
There's not a lot planned for today except afternoon tea at a hotel in Tynemouth. I was given a voucher for my birthday back in February, but we have been away a lot this year, and hadn't used it. Tynemouth is lovely, wish we could afford to live there!!
Then it'll be girls night in, only two of us tonight. Our group of friends has sadly diminished over the years. There's 3 of us usually, but 1 is on holiday.
Thinking of the TA's as ever, and anyone else who needs it.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning all
Not quite so cold here this morning but still a chill in the air, Evie is wrapped under a blanket on the sofa, keeping warm.
Work today and another lot of clients Fridays group are very difficult and needy and loud so I am always shattered on a Friday, wine is already in the fridge !!
The rest of the gammon joint tonight with mash peas and roasted tomatoes, the fridge is just about empty now, its mainly bottles and jars so we can turn it off tonight and await the new one :j I am looking forward to dry food !!
Holly thank you for the explanation, have you thought of getting a kindle ? my OH bought me one a while ago and I thought I would hate it as I really love a real book, but they are brilliant !! thousands and thousands of books at your fingertips and its very light weight so no heavy holding after your op xx
Mrs SD I hope DH is ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -

No thank goodness although I did think it may be the Milk Tray man sneaking in....grasping at straws now and no sign of said chocolates so I guess notits a bit yellow and purple but otherwise on the mend thank you
Have a lovely afternoon tea its my favourite girlie day out with a cheeky glass of prosecco of course.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly, sending you strength and love
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Thinking of the TA's,
Taff pleased the chemo went well
Organza_Lace pleased you're feeling better
pleased the op went well for Mr SD
Specky good luck with your job interview
ScarletRibbons enjoy your afternoon tea
Another lovely day yesterday so we went out, nothing special just a coffee. Decided housework can wait, if we're out I can't see the dust.
Reading all your posts has made me realise we need to make the most of things. As well as dementia DH has other health problems so we need to do what we can now
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Holly, I'm sure you've made a sensible decision for your overall health. I hope you'll be able to keep in touch because we will all be thinking about you.
Glad Mr SD's eye is mended. I'm really short-sighted and retinal detachment is one of the things that I've been told I'm more susceptible to, luckily so far I've been ok.
Steve has bought a weeks SKY on Now TV to watch the Ryder cup so it's on in the background (Steve's out playing golf with Chris).
We collected Ziggy last night so a walk is on the agenda for me this morning. I'm also loving the quilt I'm making atm, it's a very complicated star design and I'm trying to be absolutely meticulous with it.0
