Claim Companies and Charges

1st time posting so hopefully someone will have the answer.
I have made a couple of 'soft' online enquiries online to a couple of PPI reclaim companies. That is I have got as far as listing where I have previously had bank accounts / credit cards and these 2 Companies have got as far as sending me their packs listing the various banks etc, requesting me to sign and return them to get the ball rolling with the investigations.
At this stage I have NOT gone any further, with the intention of doing the claiming myself (as Martin suggests :T)
My question is will either of the claim companies have any rights to come after me for fees despite the fact that I have NOT sign or returned any documentation ?
Thanks in advance.

If you have not agreed to engage them, then you are not obligated.0

And when you say they have identified products, have you told them about these or did they tell you?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

What you mean is you told them where you had accounts and they immediately lied and probably told you that you had PPI. Without a letter of authority they have no legal access to your accounts to find out this information so they cannot know you had it.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I just ticked the boxes on the website that listed all the many different banks, stores etc. A kind of multiple choice thing. Then the packs containing letters of authority and terms of agreement arrived in the post that theu now want me to sign and return. This i HAVEN'T done as i assume this is what will make it become legally binding?0

If there is no contract signed (wet signature required, not an online tick) then there is no contract.
However, if you did not sign anything then the claims firm do not have any authority to speak to the lender on your behalf therefore they have no idea if you have PPI or not so undoubtedly are lying to you that you have it in order to try and get you to sign up in the hope you did and they can get a pay day.
Store the files, do not sign anything, ignore any other paperwork and complain directly if you had PPI and have miss-selling reasons.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
