Sitting waiting on the delivery of my new ipod shuffle and started looking into things abit more so see what my new toy could do and im now worried it wont do what i want it to do,can anyone please advise and let me know, my thoughts were to sort music into folders as i know the shuffle can play random or not but on reading im finding nothing to indicate this and the thought of all the music just stored one after another
i would like the option to store by folder also what im reading regarding charging is pc only unless you buy the charger seperatley at £20 which isnt the bargain i had hoped, but i bought it online from boots and have time/option to change my mind and take it back if my thoughts are true.
If the above is true can anyone recomend a 1gb or maybe a sony (atrac)512mb or even if possible something that can store in folders and can hold a good few albums as im getting it with the mind im off on holiday to salou and wont have access to pc so whatever music i put on has to last 2 weeks also the battery has to be changeable to last the 2 weeks, i dont mind if its a rechargable battery which can be replaced with a normal one (does that make sence?)
Any good advice please?

The thing I hate about the Sony products, is this insane need for them to keep pushing the ATRAC format. It means any mp3's you want to put on it have to be converted. Arguably not a huge issue, I filled my iPod months ago, and haven't changed it much since. Apart from that issue Sony's are very good but a tad pricey.
I'm currently looking for a decent flash based (static) mp3 player as I'm going off my iPod. What I'm looking for is:
- Decent battery life (replaceable is a bonus)
- Large storage (1gb)
- Replaceable storage, ie being able to switch memory cards
- USB2 plug and play, ie plug it in and it comes up as a hard drive in Windows Explorer, No 3rd party software!
- The ability to store the files in folders, which most static players seem to lack at the moment.
I've yet to actually find a decent manufacturer that offers all or most of the above. So far I've found a make called DigitFab (I think that's their name), which offer most of the above, but they're not known for their quality. I'll keep looking..."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Have you considered the Creative Muvo? A bit more expensive than the Ipod Shuffle (Ebuyer have the 1gb at £110 +postage), but I think it uses normal AAA batteries. My sister has the 128mb and it is very attractive. I'm not sure about randomising the playlist though. The added bonus is that it plays wma files as well as mp3 and can double up as a flash drive.0

Hi
I bought an MP3 player from mobiliblu, the DHH-100 (http://www.mobibluamerica.com/dhh100-5.html), meets most of what you need:
-Good battery life
- 5 GB storage
- Supports SD (and I think MMC)
- USB2 plug and play
Also a host of other features. I bought is from mp3players.co.uk. Only problem is they have now stopped stocking it."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
then checkout the NEX1a
http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=220
its £50 + card uses ordinary AA batts 15+hours on a pair of high density NIMH and it uses compact flash cards currently under £20 for 512Mb CF cards are available up to 8Gb - if your wallet will stand it
The sound is good - although you may need to replace the headphones for the best quality the door to the CF card is a bit flimsy
I'd recomend advancedMP3players as a store - service is excellent but buy your CF cards elsewhereTANSTAAFL !0 -
I found the ipod program Itunes to be a real pain to use. Cant seem to be able to export mp3 to ipod. So I use real player plugin but there is also a plugin for winamp.
You cant store in folder to represent albums unless the id3tag is correct (name of album) but if you want to store a collection of singles I create a new id3tag using tag&rename to create a new album ie my(name)hits etc. I share the ipod with the wife so she wants her favourite groups I don't care for.
I do think a major flaw of the ipod is the none removable battery, far better for a compartment where you can use you own battery.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -

Yes that one crept onto my list just after i had posted this, i know it is dearer but i would rather pay the extra and get one that does what i want than pay less and regret missing features.
Has anyone any opinions on the sony ones? mostley the nwe99 one as that and the muvo seem to be top with excellent reviews. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

i got my daughter a creative 5gb and i have to say it was so easy to set up and battery life seems to be very good. But the main reason for the comment is the customer service - i bought it through a web based computer shop and aftre 28 days they did not want to get involved with replacement after it stopped reading the HD and passed you onto the creative customer support, where i got it from would do this but would take weeks.
I went through a number of checks with the man on the phone and he duly said it is not seeing the HD and it would be replaced. within 5 working days i had received an email with return address to send the faulty one back and also received the replacement. Not bad as i was expecting them to say it had been dropped and was therefore a result of missuse- so thumbs up to creative0 -

Yes ive heard that the customer support is good, infact everything ive read about this player is good apart from the touch controls take a bit of getting used to but everything else seems to be spot on and on reading reviews from many differant places it seems the creative player beets the ipod mini hands down, and ive bought from boots and had to return after a few months and never had a single problem with them so fingers crossed but handy to have creative being helpfull too.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
