Hi

I have been meaning to post this opportunity for a while - apologies if it has already been mentioned.

Whilst looking for work from home opportunities I came across this.

http://www.lionbridge.com/lionbridge/en-US/company/work-with-us.htm

I applied for it but didn't pass the test - it is quite intense and I didn't want to spend the time on it but this does appear a genuine opportunity for someone if you are prepared to put the effort in.

Hope this helps someone

Karen

There are 2 parts to the test - theory and practical. For the theory you just need to show you have read and understood the manual they send you (I think it is about 40 pages long).

The practical part is using the interface you would use if they employ you - you then rate webpages based on the criteria you have read about in the manual. If I remember correctly the practical test has about 200 (maybe more) pages to rate. They suggest 10 hours overall to spend on both tests. I passed the theory easily but failed the practical as I tried to rush it. But to be honest I would have found this work quite intense anyway - this is for someone with a lot of patience and an eye for detail.

hi guys ive just read through the agreement they send you which IS a contract and got my hubby who is a solicitor to read through- he would advise NO ONE to go for this saying it is highly risky. They only "endeavour" to pay you within 60 days so it could be long after that you get paid PLUS they only use "reasonable efforts" to pay you which he says is just not good enough. Secondly they are not liable for your actions ie you could get sued if you do anything really wrong......

    3. The rate of pay for UK raters is €11.85 euros per hour. Please confirm that this meets your approval.
Important Note: As an independent contractor payment of tax on your Lionbridge Technologies wages is your responsibility.
We may request proof that you have paid tax on your earnings – we will finalise these details at a later stage.
I'm expecting the test to be emailed to me today, i'll have a look and see what i think.

Oh, why cant anything like this be straightforward!! Thanks for your advice though, maybe I wont bother doing the next step.
  • I'm also awaiting my training material which will give me more of an idea of what I will be letting myself in for. Yes, the contract does seem quite intense but I am keeping an open mind. I intend to ask a few more questions re the contract before I take the test if i am still unsure of what exactly is involved after I do the training session.
