accidental payment

Options
I accidently paid £350 to my cashplus credit card instead of into my other bank account. I phoned my bank who said they could not reverse the payment. I phoned cashplus and they said that I could with withdraw the money from cash machine so that I could pay into bank. I tried to make withdrawal but declined. I phoned again and was told max withdrawal was £50. I withdrew £50 yesterday. Today I tried to do the same but was declined. I phoned again and was told that because my limit is only £100 I cannot withdraw anymore even though I have paid £350 in!

I asked if they could transfer money back to my bank account but they said they could not do that. The only way I can access the money is to make card purchases! I need the money in my account as payments due to come out of account next week. Is there anyway I can make them transfer money back?

Nope. Cancel the payments coming out of your account next week and pay over the phone/online with your Cashplus card.
  • they are direct debits - can I cancel and restart or ask companies just not to take October payment which I can pay by card?
  • If they genuinely cannot pay you out I would suggest their system is not as well designed as it could and should be. I would guess it is more a case of apathy and ignorance.

You might also be able to request a temporary increase in credit limit to take out the necessary funds. The limit could then be dropped back to £100 at the end of the month with zero risk to the card company because they already have enough cash to cover it.

Temporary credit limit increases should be easy enough to achieve if they have any idea how to service a customer.

    Good luck
  • I actually got an email yesterday offering me a credit limit increase to £500 which I accepted but it said could take 5 days to be applied! I'm away to Majorca on Saturday for a week so would be complicated to withdraw money and pay into my bank out there

Hopefully it will come through quicker than that. You could give them a call (another one) and ask for it to be expedited due to what's happening. If they care, they will try to help.
