Hi All
Just had a question on my personal home PC setup.
I have a rather large custom built PC using an Antec case and space is becoming a bit of a premium in my house with the recent purchase of a large monitor.
Rather than sell the base unit I would like to reuse it but need to condense it down to a smaller case ideally Intel NUC size.
I am aware that a lot of the components I wouldn't be able to move to such a tiny case such as Motherboard but I would like to reuse my Intel Core i3 4160 3.60GHz Socket 1150 processor as well as the memory and SSD drive I have already purchased.
Is there a way I could do this? Does anyone have any suggestions on cases I could look at?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

what exact motherboard have you got currently?
There may be some smaller case you can move to?
If you want anything with NUC size, it means new PC.0 -
I doubt you will get anywhere near to a case as small as a NUC - for a start your existing CPU probably has a power consumption of 50W+, which probably won't work well in a case that small.
AFAIK all of the NUCs and NUC-based derivatives (such as the Brix) use soldered-down CPUs that are installed from the factory, so no viable option to re-use your existing one there.
Similarly, they typically use laptop low-power memory, so a desktop memory module almost certainly won't fit.
The SSD almost certainly will be reusable though - which is handy, as it's likely to be the most expensive of the components that you want to re-use.0 -
Use https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ and just add the components you want to keep and then work through the case sizes to find one to suit.0

No idea how well it works though

Love to see the OP condense his tower onto it :rotfl:0 -
Yes you will, and much smaller to boot

I think OP want to reuse his component?0 -
By the way, the best you can do is go for itx motherbroad with a small case.
However, I don't think it is worth doing as you will be looking at £50+ for used itx motherboard.
New case and psu like Antec ISK300-150 will be at £70.
You probably can find a used SFF with i3 4130 for that money!
And thus, it may be better to just get an alternate smaller case instead.0
