Morning,
I have just been offered a secretarial role in a Solicitors and they will be doing a credit check (I'd forgot about them doing that as I have been previously employed for 28 years - dhur!!!!)
My question is: I'm in debt but don't have any CCJ's, not behind with monthly payments etc., but will they say I'm not not suitable and withdraw my job position.
Oh heck. I was also offered another job which I refused because of this one.
Help please.

I'm afraid nobody except the potential employer can answer that. But in my experience, it's not so much debt as "secrets" that are the problem because secrets make you vulnerable to pressure. Why not just phone the employer, tell them this is worrying you, explain your situation, that you have no judgements against you etc., and see what they say? They are going to find out, so be the first to tell them. People get into debt. It's how the deal with it that is the measure of the person.0

Thats pretty much it. Its the applicant not declaring it that often creates the problem for the employer - if someone is hiding financial problems or a criminal offence then what else might they hide in the future?
Declare it up front, explain why its happened and what you are doing to resolve it and then the credit check will align with what you've told them.
If they dont want to employ you based on that then fine.0 -

People with debt compared to those without debt are often a good credit risk as they have a proven history of paying back money, loans etc.
And by the look of your signature you are doing very well at managing your circumstances.
So I wouldn't be too concerned about a credit check by a prospective employer, - they can't go into your bank account and see everything you spend your money on - as long as you've been open and honest with them if they've asked directly about your financial history, i'd expect you'll be fine.
Good luck in the new role.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Thank you. I haven't updated my signature so my debt is even lower.
The solicitors in question did not ask anything about whether I had got debts or not. I've just checked noodle and I defaulted on some (pay day lenders) that is not good is it?
I'm worried sick tat they withdraw the job offer, how the heck do I explain that one to my Mum?LBM 10/9/13 £40,571 (SCARY). NOW DECEMBER 2016 £31,805.

I realise that you are scared, but sitting there worrying about it isn't solving anything. Speak to them and explain. That way you know the answer. There is no other way of getting the answer.0

You're an adult, so your mum needs to respect that. Time to grow up!
As others have said, no good posting here and then biting your nails anxiously. Debt isn't an automatic bar to working in a secretarial capacity in a firm of solicitors; dishonesty certainly is, and you don't sound as if you've done anything dishonest.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Thank you all. I'm still sitting here pooping myself but I presume I'll know by the end of the week.
They didn't ask me anything but after speaking to my SIL she said that they can see 'everything' within 2 days of me starting tomorrow. I have written a statement of what I have been doing since I started with my DMP in 2013, how much I have paid and how many debts I have got rid of.
Fingers crossed for me please.

Well they can if they say "show us all of this or we won't give you the job"......0 -
