Fraudulent activity through Vodafone

Options
Hi Guys,
I’m hoping someone can point me in some sort of direction!!

I have found out whilst trying to remortgage that i have an “outstanding debt” with vodafone of £7,666! Yes you read that correctly! £7,666!! I obviously phoned vodafone and as i cannot pass security on the account (as clearly i didn’t open this account) they cannot divulge any details about it. It’s on my credit file with my name my old address but that’s it.
Vodafone have been massively unhelpful in getting any answers to me. The only solution they came up with was visit a store and prove i am who i am and they will change the details on this account to my details and then they will discuss the account. Clearly i don’t want to do this as then that would be accepting liability for this mysterious account surely??

To make matters worse, i have been with vodafone since November 2013 and only had 1 late payment in my 5 years of being with them. This mysterious account was opened in December 2015. Not by me.

I have since this mysterious account was opened upgraded my phone etc twice and vodafone have told me nothing about a debt in my name. They have my current address, they have my current bank details and they have been taking my money each month no questions asked.
I have NEVER been notified of this debt.
I have received NO letters.
I have not had any debt collectors knock at my door which you would assume for that large debt you’d have many knocking your door!!

I have put in an official complaint with the financial ombudsman service who have written to me to tell me they are investigating.

I am in the process of trying to remortgage due to wanting an extension on my property and have been told that due to this monumental issue on my credit file i cannot proceed.

Can anyone at all help me?

can anyone offer any advice?

thanks in advance! ❤️❤️❤️
