Iv lived in my flat 5 years. my landlord agreed j coukd gave a cat and the appropriate deposit was paid. my cat is a therapy cat as I have bi-polar.
Iv just had my yearly flat inspection which went well.
however my landlord has just contacted me to say he us selling the flat and the new landlord will take me on as the tenant. no mention has been made regarding my pet who has resided here 5 years already. I'm extremely stressed out. I have no idea who the new landlord is so cant contact them and know I would not be willing to give up my therapy pet. where do I stand

If the house is sold to a new Landlord then the new Landlord takes on the existing tenancy on the existing terms including all agreements such as pets. So you do not need to worry or even ask the question.
Of course you are no more or less secure than you were before in that any Landlord can give 2 month notice at any time after the fixed term ended.0 -
If you pay your rent on time and are otherwise a good tenant I'd be very surprised if the new landlord came along and wanted to try and dispute you having a pet in the property. As far as I know your tenancy agreement will continue as it was before, the new landlord can't enforce any changes whilst your current tenancy is in existence.
I'm sure others will be along shortly to ask what type of tenancy agreement you have, when did you sign it, when is it due to expire, are there any break cluases and what does it say about pets, do you have the permission to keep a pet in writing etc so if you have these details then please post as this will help the knowledgable amongst us to offer you advice and hopefully put your mind at rest.
My advice would be to try and relax, put your feet up and give the cat a cuddle!0 -
The new owner will become your landlord, but your tenancy will not change in any way unless
* you and the new LL agree new terms (eg rent, pets etc), or
* your fixed term ends and the LL offers you and new fixed term, with new terms (eg rent, pets) and you agree. Or
* your fixed term ends and the new LL decides to evict you and serves you a S21 Notic - very unlikely, why would he take on an existing tenancy and then end it? And have to pay to fond a new tenant? And lose rent in the meantime?0
