Paying off credit card after death

Options
My father died 4 days ago. His Santander credit card was always paid off in full by a monthly direct debit from his TSB current account. That current account has now been frozen. Today the latest credit card statement for him came showing that he owes £55 (due for payment by Oct 17th)
Presumably the usual direct debit won`t be paid which will leave this as a debt on his estate?
I am tempted to pay it off now myself to keep things simple. Is there any reason why I shouldn`t do this?
(I intend to make an appointment with TSB to arrange an executors bank account etc next week)

  • Sorry for your loss.

It will need to be paid from the estate if there are funds. It's possible they may write it off, given the sum.

I would only pay it yourself if you are the sole beneficiary.

Advise Santander of your father's death and ask them to freeze the credit card account pending settlement of his estate. Ask if they'll waive interest and late payment fees.

This advice is correct but in view of the very small amount involved you may prefer just to pay it yourself.
