Executor now carrying out duties but a question please?

Thank you for all your thoughts. There are deeper issues here coming to the surface. So sad - yes - it was our Mum's choice and I respect that but it seems once the power is now in place the shock has hit me.
Even down to the grandchildren wanting to be coffin bearers (ages 30's & 50's) for their granny but that was refused - so much upset - which she wouldn't have wanted.
I am pleased she had no property. I have written to him and my two children asking if he has a date to inter the ashes - no response. I sent copy via email and that seems as though it is not working now - it was during the time she was very poorly as he wanted questions answered to help him as he lived miles away e.g. how things were paid - all of which I set up for her.
Yes - I feel he will do everything properly but will only contact when he is ready. To empty her flat he came and took my keys and that of my brothers and said it was in his hands now. So hard after I had been her main carer for at least two years as we live nearby so visited every day. For the last 10 years - she was on her own and my husband and I were there for her shopping, etc. He was her 'favourite' but she and I were very close.
We will sit back and wait - just would be respectful to just update us.0 -
Regarding the keys and it being "in his hands now" - I believe the executor has a legal duty to secure the property as it is their responsibility to protect the estate.
Devil's advocate again. Suppose something happened to the house eg a pipe burst. The insurance co could be very tricky with him if he'd not secured the property and turned the water off. What would his response be? Well my sister didn't give me her house keys.... Same goes for the bills etc. Anything that goes wrong, or is done incorrectly, is on him as executor.
If he's doing everything correctly then leave him to it, don't create stress for yourself at what's already an awful time.
I'm sorry I don't have anything more comforting to say...Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.0 -

Thank you for your thoughts. I agree with all that you say and yes he has to carry out his duties. (I respect all that seemed ridiculous that he lives 200 miles away and if anything happened the neighbours would phone me - so it would be the council having to get in.)
My original post was really to ask what his duties are at this final stage.
It would be nice to have had an update of maybe timescales when our Mum's ashes will be collected.
Now we just sit and wait for him to contact us to tell us when she will come back 'home' to the family churchyard.
Will leave it now and thank you all for your help.0
