Workshop Supplies Online

Has anyone had any experience ordering workshop/ garage supplies online?

I usually call into my local harware store whenever I need to get some essentials, but recently I've been checking out the online options and there are some really good sites out there now. It would save a lot of time in the long run.

The 2 big ones seem to be Screw Fix and Toolstation. Prices are pretty good.
But are they reliable?

Do they get the orders right consistently and how quick does it get here?

Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
G.

What sort of "supplies" are you meaning?

SF/TS both have plenty of physical stores around the country, but if you're looking for car-specific stuff (this is the motoring forum), then you may be better looking at motor factors. There's several online big names - EuroCarParts/CarParts4Less (same company) and GSF are two of the biggest - but there's a lot of smaller guys flogging via eBay/Amazon. Then there's the specialists like Opie Oils.

I've made orders from Screwfix to be delivered and collected and both times it was a pretty good experience.
I've only been ordering fairly small sets of plumbing/electrical parts though but I'd happily order again.
(It certainly helps that Screwfix is probably the closest big hardware store to me now).

Gosh you are a little behind the times. Screwfix has been around since about 1980.

Screwfix is owned by Kingfisher (B&Q).
Toolstation is owned by Travis Perkins.

They were both set up by the same family (Mark Goddard-Watts).

  • I use screwfix a lot. They are a mile from home and I can order and pay on the computer, hop in the car and collect and be back home again in a few minutes. I find them extremely reliable. Doing it this way I know if they have the thing I want in stock, they can be fetching it from the store room while I'm driving there and I just have to collect it and go.

  • Hi Marlot,

Yeah - I definitely want something that is cheap. And online would just save a bucket load of time.
Have you ordered off that greasemonkeydirect site?

    Inventory looks good.

Same here except it's more than a mile away. Bought quite a lot of stuff from them, and it's all been right so far.
They're supposed to be very good at dealing with returns as well.

Had a screwfix near me for a long time, had to drive 5 miles before.

Toolstation opened almost next door, so i now have both on my doorstep. They are stores so why buy online when i can pick it up in 5 minutes?

Toolstation app is far superior to Screwfix's, Screwfix you download the entire catalogue... hundreds of MB of data.. Toolstation quick and simple.
