We have had the direct drive LG for around 9 years, and it has been superb.
We came back off holiday and the beast started vibrating really badly.
I have put a wash on today and have had to pause, stop and then put it on the drain programme.
There were also what looked be tiny pieces - shards - of grey plastic when I took the clothes out.
Does this sound terminal - uneconomic to repair?:(

Firstly check that it is level. Bet it was towels you were washing, as they did that to my LG.
In my search for my Miele problem found this service, but have not used them yet.

You need to remove the top, with power off and have a look.
Possible causes of extreme wobble are:
A strong spring attached to the side of the machine by a grey bracket has disintegrated.
A damper/shock absorber has become disconnected from the side because the grey bracket has disintegrated.
Either way, have a good look and see where those grey bits have come from. Could be a simple replacement.
I'm just not sure how the grey shards got in with the wash, if that's what you're saying. If they were definitely in the wash, perhaps the main bearing is shot. You could check that with the top off - reach down to the centre of the circular part of the drum compartment and check for sideways movement - there shouldn't be any.
It's definitely grey plastic - not grey rubber? I suppose the door seal could be breaking down and causing an uneven breaking effect.0 -
I wonder if one of the paddles (for what of a better word/description) on the inside of the drum has broken ??
This would make it vibrate as it would be unbalanced.0 -
May be parts of the outer drum breaking up caused by the inner drum bouncing off it,did you wash your beach towels in it,may have run out of balance or bearings may be shot.0
