Renting/Buying/Gifted a house while I claim UC - Could I claim Housing Benifit?

If your parents bought and rent it out to you they would need a proper tenancy agreement. They would have to treat you like a regular tenant.
Would they evict you if you stopped paying them the rent. I doubt it. Therefore you won’t get housing benefitMortgage free wannabe

Right let me clear something up. I am in no way trying to falsely claim any sort of benefits (hence why I asked). The £12K the DWP know about they told me if I had £16K saving (if I remember right) then I wouldn't be eligible for UC.
The £12K I have saved is what I am going to use towards a flat/house. My parent's have said they would help out by loaning me some money and giving me some money (not fully pay for the flat/house).
Let's say I find a full time job and I buy a house or flat and paid in full. What happens if I am made redundant again? Would UC help me with my bills while I look for more work?0 -
Yes but if you're planning on buying a house/flat then of course you still won't be able to claiming the housing element of UC, whether you're borrowing the money from your parents or not.

You will have to let the dwp know about the money that will be in your bank to pay for the flat. Even if it's only in there the day the sale goes through.
If you have over 6k savings your uc should be adjusted downwards slightly. It's 1 pound for every 250 over 6k I believe0 -
Where are you going to find a house for 30k. I live in an area where property is cheap and they are few and far between at that price.
They wouldn't pay your mortgage if you are on uc if that is what you mean. Possibly the interest on it after a wait period.0 -
I was made redundant earlier this year.
I hope to be back in work by early next year
Wouldn't it be better to get a job first and then find somewhere to live that's near work?
If you buy first and then get a job in a different area of the country, what will you do with the property?0 -

I am mostly looking for a flat but houses in the region between £25K - £30K is not that rare in my area.
Thanks for the info.0 -
Even then they don't pay the interest any more, they lend you the money which then becomes another loan that has to be paid back (with interest) - https://www.gov.uk/support-for-mortgage-interest. In this case I think the OP was talking about buying outright anyway - unlikely he would get a mortgage in his current circs.Possibly the interest on it after a wait period.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Yer that's what I am hoping for get back into full time work and then find a house. I am just trying to get as much info as I can over the next few months and have all basis covered.
Thanks.0 -
Its not that difficult. You buy the property and let the DWP know. And they stop paying you housing element. They will ask where you got the money from because if it was yours it would be counted as savings or financial assets (might not be using the exact terminology but they would want to know that you have not had that much money sitting in your bank account for months)
All I had to do was call the service centre (I was a live claimant then) and tell them that my house sale had gone through and they stopped my housing element from the date contracts were exchanged0
