The cost of small cars is no longer small!
I have been given a new Micra as a courtesy vehicle, whilst my QQ is in for repairs.
The Micra is a 1.5 Diesel N-Connecta. It's not bad, we have a 108 at the moment that will go back in 6 months and thought I'd look at how much the courtesy car is.
Knocking on for £19,000 for a mid range small hatchback. It's not even practical really.
Needless to say, if the manufacturers want this kinda money for a new small 5 door - we'll be getting something nicer used!

I probably blame leasing... now "regular people" have been persuaded to lease a car rather than buy one .... they don't seem to see the stupidly high price ticket on the windscreen!
My car cost me £6k eight years ago when it was about four years old. I don't plan on ever spending more than £2-3k on a car for the rest of my life.0 -
Dacia Sandero = £9,0000

Good shout. I think the 1.5 DCI in that is the same used across the Renault & Nissan range, but in a mildly less potent form.
Due to their popularity though, I can't see it being too long before Dacia prices start creeping up and they start loading the cars to try and compete with the more established brands. They will be Renault/Nissan's equivalent of Seat. Started off cheap, but ended up pretty much the same as the rest of the group in specs and price.0 -
Nissan tried to sell me a Micra about 18 months ago when they released the latest model. They'd definitely tarted it up, compared to the older ones!
If I were to spec out a brand new Golf now, I'd be looking at over £30k! I'll wait a few years for somebody to get tired of theirs and flog it. :cool:0 -

List prices are meaningless these days though. That car can be bought for £14K ish from a broker.
An entry level Micra can be bought for £11.5K ish

My Fiesta cost me £9500 and it was less than 6 months old with under 900 miles. However the sticker price was £13,500. An absolute joke.
Basically it's to make people go on these payment plans which are largely a silly idea unless you are A) rich and want a new car every 3 years oractually need a car for work and can't wait to save to get one.
Had a friend who leased two cars over a 8 year period. Fell into financial difficulty and had to return the car back to the dealer to save money. All those payments and nothing to show for it.0 -

He had cars for 8 years to show for it, and its not like if he'd bought them cash they wouldnt have depreciated by a similar amount or more...0 -

Why?
People get paid monthly, and all their other bills come out monthly, so why not pay for your car monthly? Budget a certain amount that you can afford and shop around for the best deal. Hassle free motoring. Works for a lot of people...0 -
