Have to say aqua are the worse company I’ve ever had to deal with so you’ve probably had a lucky escape.
I’ve wrote, emailed countless times via their online message system, phoned god knows how many times and made a official complaint on resolver to try and get my account sorted out over 4 months. A total shambles of a company. They never even bother listening to what you write, standard auto replies if you’re lucky. On the phone they will make up whatever excuse or lie comes to mind by saying it’s resolved to get you off the phone. How they’re still in business I don’t know. In the past I’ve always recommended them but if you ever have a problem god help you.
My card got blocked for making a £400 transaction which wouldn’t be unblocked no matter how much I tried to resolve it! Excuses, system problems their end, lies... A month later life happened and I had to get a part refund on a hotel booking so my account was left in credit by £140 for months on end. I had actually filled out a money claim out online ready to take them to small claims court. By some miracle I was able to get my card unblocked today after another 3 hours on the phone. Any other card would send a sms if there was a problem asking you to text back yes or no to confirm it’s you making the transaction. Not aqua! Spend hours on the phone instead over 4 months and write tons of messages only to be ignored.
I would make a official complaint on https://www.resolver.co.uk where after something like 8 weeks you can transfer it to the ombudsman if you get nowhere.
Check your credit files to see if they have indeed carried out 5 hard searches also.
I had a capital one card awhile back, they aren’t as generous with the credit increases (at least for me) but the customer service was spot on when I did message them once, no problems closing the card either. No fuss trying to force you to keep it open, all simply done online by messaging them. Well worth looking into. It’ll build your credit the same way a aqua card would, after 18 months of no missed payments etc you should be able to apply for a mainstream card. Maybe sooner. I believe they have a soft search eligibility checker you can use to see if you’re likely to be accepted.0 -
I have given up on Aqua completely and on Tuesday night applied for Capital One, approved instantly(a small credit limit, but as this is part of my credit rebuilding strategy not too bothered),
Email to setup online account received today, and so has my PIN number , 10000% times more efficient than Aqua who after another phone call yesterday told me to call back on Monday... !!!!!!0 -
Aqua are awful. I had 0% for 3 months. I received my statement after the first month, and they'd added interest. I called, they 'investigated' and cancelled the interest. They upped my credit limit a month later by 1k. Fine, no problem. They then upped my APR by 10% a couple of months later. Not cool. I hadn't missed a payment, hadn't gone over my limit (or was even close to maxing it out), had always paid far more then the minimum balance etc. I wasn't impressed by the hike so paid it off in full and I haven't used it since.0
