Smart Thermostat question

Firstly, sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. Please feel free to correct me and I'll move it.
We've just moved to a home without a hard wired thermostat. It has a Honeywell remote programmer/thermostat which connects to a receiver right beside the boiler and turns the boiler off and on on demand.
We want to replace this with a smart thermostat system. Love to consider a variety and choose according to our needs, but I've no idea whether any of them might be able to replace what we have today without needing to run new wiring to a suitable location for the thermostat, which would be difficult and costly.
Is anybody aware of which systems, if any might be useable, even if it means adding an additional "gizmo" to provide remote access ?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Plenty of wireless thermostats on amazon screwfix b& q etc .
But they are not smart whatever you mean by that .
Two components battery operated wireless temp gauge that sends a signal over wireless .
Thats picked up by the main unit that is powered from mains and the cabling to fire the boiler goes in .

I would have thought that it is simply a matter of replacing the existing wireless receiver with the receiver that comes with the smart thermostat.
Look at Hive or Nest, for example.0 -
I had Hive installed. The old thermostat in the hall was hard wired to a controller next the boiler. The Hive engineer replaced the controller (and removed and disconnected the old thermostat). The new thermostat can be placed anywhere. It seemed to be a simple job.0
