I`ve not checked all the points partners but i redeemed mine for M&S and Next vouchers about a month ago for Christmas prezzies and these two stores were 1500 for £10.
If they all change i`ll be off looking for another card in the new year.
  • I am a long-standing Goldfish cardholder and used to think it was a good deal, but there seem to be several better cards on offer now.

I am really, really useless at maths. At £10 for 1750 or 1500 points, how does that compare with the Capital One card that will give me 1p cashback for every pound I spend (4p for the first few months)?

I am a long term Goldfish card holder but will move to Capital One if it gives a better deal.
  • Former Morgan Stanley/Goldfish – the worst UK credit card provider in my book. Customer services are useless and staff only trained to quote ‘it is our policy’ instead of trying to understand customer’s problem. They also flag your account somehow (I am sure it is illegal) if you complain a lot and then you have 10 out of 10 unhelpful representatives instead of normal 5 out of 10. As I have explained before there is a good reason Morgan Stanley did not want their international trading name to be associated with DFS cc business. Pre-DFS Goldfish used to be one of the best deals on the market.

I wouldn't have known about Goldfish cutting the value of points again, but for this thread. As for a leaflet saying so, I cant recall getting anything, it was possibly in tiny print abut terms and conditions I guess. Have had Goldfish for years. It started good at 1% back in points, got worse at 0.66%... but still better than the 0.5% from amex, so stuck with it BUT now its 0.57% makes amex look good cos thats cash and its done automatic. Wifey just had an invitation from Barclaycard offering 2% on supermarkets and petrol (0.5% on every thing else) in the post, most of her spending is at those places, and they gaurenteeing to accept her so looks like good timing.
Nope.... Still cant think of owt interesting to put here.

What about the Capital One card - 4% cashback on all spending for first three months, 1% thereafter. Gotta be better than Barclaycard, surely? Read Martin's advice on Best Cashback Cards. ;)

Thanks Renard, I would tend to agree with you, and I did look at the Capital one deal before sending the Barclays aplication off..... here comes the BUT... but I cancelled my Capital one sometime in the last year after my 0% 18 month deal finished, so I cant see us getting one in my name yet. And wifes earnings are less than minimum Capital one ask for, so she wouldnt get it in her own name. Whereas she has a current accout with Barclays ( Yes i know the interest from them is Pants, but its the only bank within walking distance and the diesal/time saved outwieghs the extra interest could get) . Because she already has a Barclays account, the invitation says she is GAURENTEED acceptance, and 2% on most of her spending sounds pretty good. But if someone is in a position to be able to get the Capital one card then thats definitley the one to go for during the 3 month period at least.

  • Just got burnt by this myself. Been saving up points for a few years, go to redeem them and found they have changed the value. Phoned up to complain that I had not been informed of this and was told that they did not need to inform me. I argued that this was not a good way to deal with loyal customers but got nowhere.

Need to decide whether to write to customer services on this or just redeem what I can and close the account.
