Hi All - I need to make a £6000 purchase at the end of this week but my credit limit on my Reward Credit Card is just over £3000. If I were to pay £3000 into my credit card in advance would this allow the £6000 purchase to be charged as I would have £3000 sitting waiting to be used plus my credit limit?

Unlikely and would be against the t and c's of your account and worse case scenario they close your account.0

Why do you need to put it all on the one card....will the retailer accept 2 different payment methods?0

Are you looking for s75 protection? If so, then you only need pay a small amount on the credit card. Pay the rest on a debit card. That way you have full s75 cover.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
yes - looking for S75 protection - not explored using 2 cards yet or part paying by card. Thanks for feedback on danger of prepaying into account, that was me thinking imaginatively. Have contacted to ask for uplift of limit for one transaction but they need 10 days to decideJohn0

I have a NW Select Card and wanted to pay all of my car purchase this April on my card as there are no longer charges added by the retailer and I get a small amount of cashback.
NW said it was no problem, so I put my account into credit by £6000 by a transfer from my NW current account and used that and my limit of £10,000 to pay for my new car.
Should not be a problem, would call them to check.0 -
Many years ago, a company I worked for sold computers. People often didn't have enough limit.
So the accounts woman would put the card through the imprinter machine several times, dating vouchers one month apart. So effectively the customer would pay by instalments.
Of course there was a risk - the subsequent transactions weren't authorised so could have been declined. But generally it went well.
So could you agree something like this with your supplier? Half now, half payable as a "customer not present" transaction a month later?0
