Admin fees for changing vehicle on policy

Morning all.
So im buying a new car today and need to change my vehicle over with my insurers but theyre wanting to charge me £50 upfront to do it over the phone or if I do it via my online portal its only £35 but its not giving me the option to change my vehicle on my portal (sods law)
Im with Go Skippy.
Any other insurer ive dealt with has spread the cost of thr admin fee over the remainder of the policy but not these! They also mentioned that any additional premium may be taken at the time of vehicle change although i MAY be able to have this spread over my remaining payments.
Im wondering if it would be cheaper for me to cancel the policy and start afresh with a new one? I informed them id got rid of my vehicle, they gave me 14 days to replace it or they would cancel the policy anyway.
But its not clear what the canellation fees are!
Also ive done an online quote on some comparison sites and its only £48 per month. The 2 cheapest are Debhenams and would you believe it...Go Skippy! (Coming in at same price)
However i bet if i change my vehicle over with go skippy on the policy ive got now, my payments will be more than they already are (im cureently paying 72 a month for my old car )
Not sure what to do but i need to insure this car before 10am as thats when were off to get it!

That's what you get when you insure with an Arron Banks business

???? Are Go Skippy part of Arron Banks?
  • Its Eldon Insurance isnt it? One of Arron Banks companies
  • Go Skippy is a trading brand for Eldon Insurance Brokers which is owned by the man himself.

If you cancel your current policy you won't accrue this years NCB (not an issue if you're already on the max).

Paying monthly doesn't mean it's always a 'clean break' to cancel mid term.

As above you wont get any extra NCB for the part year and their cancellation fee is likely to be at least £50 and you will probably
    still owe them money.

Paying by installments you may owe more than you have paid so far.

  • Its ok, ive sorted it now.
It wouldn't let me do it on my portal when i signed in but i followed a link to my portal and it let me do it??? Stupid!
The extra premium for the year was £11. Then they wanted an admin fee of £35. On my portal it gave me the option of paying £46 up front or spreading the cost over my remaining direct debits.(somethimg the advisor said I COULD NOT DO!) so i opted for the latter. Only because ive other stuff to pay out today and a car to collect and pay for.
  • I would jump to someone else just on the principle

They dont charge you £35 to Create the policy in the first place which creates a lot more admin, or at least they dont tell you that

All of my previous insurers let me change vehicle online for free - I also has to change some details once and they have a charge for amendments but I just told them on the phone they must have made a mistake and they changed it for free

  • It is normal for all insurance brokers/companies to charge admin fees for changing vehicles over.

I would say though that the cheapest (in this case Go Skippy) are not always the best option.
