ICICI account opening (or perhaps not!!!)

Trying to open an ICICI account.

They now want a certfied copy of my driving licence / passport and utility bill from my bank manager, a police officer, an MP or someone similar.

I have opened about 20 savings accounts in the past and no-one has ever asked for cerfification of this sort.

Are they being daft or am I being daft ....??!!

Edit: Oh yes....I sent them emails about 2 weeks ago (and again more recently) asking them whether I could take id into an ICICI bank instead ... and they haven't bothered to reply.

Very poor customer service - and I'm a NEW customer!

Think they are based in India so you may find walking into a bank in this country a wee bit difficult. I was looking to help my eldest open an account and the rates are really good but my OH was a bit suspect as he had never heard re: ICICI so on investigation it's in India...sorry can't be more help if you look at their web site there is an address in London so maybe you could go and bother them!

incorrect. they are also based here. ICICI is the UK arm of an Indian Bank. There is a branch in Knightsbridge;)

  • Proof of identity and address is a requirement of the new UK anti-money laundering legislation.

Also, please note that the utility or credit card bill needs to show both your name and your current address.

  • I've had exactly the same problem and have been trying to open one with them for weeks. I got my documents certified by a retired police officer who says she has done it loads of times for various people, but they would not accept this. They are making it almost impossible for me to open an account. I guess I'll need to get down to the police station and queue up with the crims to be certified, but frankly I'm not sure its worth the hassle.
