You should be paid for every hour you are working, regardless if this is for a residents holiday, you are there as a member of staff. If your expected to work 14 hours 7 days you ought to be paid for them.
With regards to the sleep in on call bit, whenever it’s your turn you should be paid the £40.
Again, expenses should be covered if they expect you to go, you wouldn’t have the expenses otherwise.
As for no handbook I’d still expect a company to have a policy for this sort of thing, ask to see it, your entitled.

Given that the OP has only worked there a couple of months I would go easy with the "your entitled"!
Yes, obviously she is "entitled" to be paid as contracted (or the national minimum wage for all hours worked if that is greater).
And yes, she is "entitled" to a written statement of the main particulars of her employment within two months of starting. However, unless she has other grounds to take them to an employment tribunal there is absolutely no way of enforcing this.
But apart from that the care home is "entitled" to dispense with her services without even giving a reason.
So it would be as well to have a back up plan in place before getting all "entitled"!0 -
Deffo have a back up plan. All I’m saying is if they want you to work 14 hours a day for all 7 days, then they pay you for the 14 hours, not 10 or 11.0

I’ve took su on holidays a couple of times over the years. We used to get 10 hours pay a day (even if they were contracted 15 hours) and a sleep in. Su used to be billed if it was more hours than they would get but it had to be agreed by social services etc. If there’s more than one staff then sleep in rate was alternating - I used to take them on my own.
Food wise - first off we could have £5 per meal per day put through their expenses, then we pay the rest. Then it changed and we had to pay the lot - so then holidays changed to caravan (so you could cook in) or half board holidays (as then meals were included). Folk become a bit fed up after though as you do spend more on holiday with them - meals, drinks you wouldn’t spend if working in their homes.
Activities should be paid by su (if you have a staff pass a lot of places you get in for free. There’s the card for the cinema etc. It’s always worth asking. )
There should be a whole holiday pack you do detailing it all. But like one said above I’m surprised your taking them for a week after being there a month. Holidays can be quite intense, yes don’t get me wrong they can be enjoyable, but I only did weekends away and for me they were long enough as they are tiring, you can’t rest, settle, shut off. Your constantly watching out, asking for receipts, doing paperwork, writing down expenses, meds. It’s really really tiring.
The other thing is I’d try and get a couple of days off when you get back. Trust me, you’ll need them!:T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :beer::beer::beer:0 -

I wouldn’t go. I can’t stand the way care home owners play the poverty card. They are making a lot of money providing support for these residents.
It isn’t your fault if the residents don’t get a holiday it is the owners fault.
Residents holidays are exhausting, harder work not easier. There is no down time at all.
Additionally staffing ratios should be one to one on residents holidays not two to three. What a tightarse your owner is. Look for another job.0 -
Unfortunately there is a balance to be struck between making the holiday affordable for the clients and attractive to the staff.
At a previous place I worked I rarely went on one of these 'holidays' as I felt it was a lot of effort for minimal financial remuneration, but there were always plenty of other staff members willing to go at the rate of pay that was offered.0 -
Make the employee feel guilty and pay out their own purse/wallet yep that's what they want.0

Your employer wouldn't be creative support by any chance?.
A neighbour worked for them and they took advantage of employees.
She was asked to buy service users xmas and birthday gifts out of her own pocket and buy pet food.
It was always oh its for the good of the "rezzies" yada yada. If you dont want to there is always someone else to do it etc.
My neighbour worked with over 30s with mental issues in a sheltered complex.
Often after doing these things she took home less than £100 a week. Worked xmas day for no extra or day in lieu.
Look for another job, plenty more out there. These jobs are ok for immigrants who get UC as well as.
