This happened with father-in-law but the car was taxed so we just kept using it while transfer of ownership was going through; no issues. The executor signed the V5 to transfer ownership about a month after death. You can't get bogged down in so many petty regulations; if it is showing as taxed and insured on askMID etc then its fine to drive.
Until you actually have an accident or get pulled over by the police. Once the policy holder is deceased the insurance is no longer valid.

Except if you read the OP, the insurer are happy with the situation, and the perfectly extant spouse is now the policyholder...

But on a new policy, not that of the deceased.

I was replying to the general statement that if AskMID shows it as insured then it's OK to drive, which of course is nonsense. Just because AskMID have not been updated with the correct details doesn't mean someone is legally able to drive the car on the road.

Makes no difference. It's insured for the spouse to drive, on a valid policy.

Don't think you'd have a problem with no tax in an accident and if th epolice pull you over it all checks out anyway

I was referring mainly to the insurance side of things.

But the thread is about tax and V5's; OP says insurance is sorted.
