Hive Home Hub/Alexa Echo or Alexa Echo plus

I could also buy an alexa echo, possibly 2, (?refurbished).
I have central heating obviously, and an OLED 55 inch LG TV, pc (not sure if that's relevant). I have problems setting up my central heating, tend to turn it off and on manually.
The reason I might get two Echo's is the alarm features. It occurred to me I might be able to get it to remind me to take medication once a day. I am a bit autistic and often forget my heart medication. It might also help me get over the problem I have with the light switch in a long dark hallway being in the middle of the hallway (so I have to walk halfway along to turn it on) - I have PIR light bulbs on order lol which might have been a waste of time lol - I do realise you need special light bulbs to work with alexa.
So questions, if you get Hive and Echo, what can you do/how do they integrate or is there a better idea than the Hive for Alexa? I tried reading the instructions but it refers to 'the hub' and I'm not sure if it means The Hive Hub, if you have the two they work together on more than just heating ie one magnifies the abilities of the other.
Do you think I might be able to get Alexa to do verbal reminders?
Then there's Echo Plus coming out in October, with a hub. Very confused what that hub enables you to do that you can't with a Hive hub.
