  • If you are going to be eating out in the city centre I would look for restaurant vouchers. Almost all the chains do them and they'll save you a fortune. The bus service is cheap and reliable if you're travelling by public transport. Day tickets are good value. Parking is very expensive. Might be worth looking on the Travelodge website. They have quite a few in the city centre but no parking. One of my favourite places is the National Museum of Scotland(and it's free). I love the city but it can be very expensive.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Being Scotland, you should be able to get cheap pre-theatre restaurant deals via https://www.5pm.co.uk/.

Premier Inn at Edinburgh Park is two minutes walk from the tram, free parking, good breakfast (extra). about 20-ish mins in to the centre on the tram. Note the rooms have non-opening windows.

Personally I think its much nicer to stay in the centre though.
  • For a bit of evening fun do the Ghost walk, this one was excellent … https://www.witcherytours.com/ amusing and informative. Teens should enjoy.

Booked Virgin rail in advance some kind of special offer - worth a look. Went when xmas markets were on.

  • Where are you travelling from - an approximate location is fine. You could leave your car in a railway station car park nearby (they're free to park in Scotland and the ones I know of are huge) and catch the train into the city and your hotel, catching the train back to your car to travel home.

  • I would also recommend flying! I always like to have a look at the Time Out website for things to do in new cities, it's got really good ideas for families!

Also I like to stay in Haymarket when I visit Edinburgh :)
  • So much to do in Edinburgh. We live in Glasgow but tend to have a few short trips of a couple of nights 3/4 times a year because we love it.

Ghost walks are great - many are free (they'll ask for a tip - no obligation but usually worth a small tip).

    Lots of great cafes.

This is a particular favourite of mine!

Love the Museum of Childhood. Free and easily a good few hours to look around.

    Have fun!

My favourite things to see in Edinburgh were the Royal Yacht and Mary King's Close.
