Asking about postage on eBay collection only item?

Any thoughts on asking if a collection only item can be posted? Don't want to waste sellers time or fall afoul of any of eBay's constantly changing rules... it's currently listed as a BIN if that makes a difference, and would definitely be postable through RM (just a bit pricey/awkward to package probably). It's quite a niche item; not sure how many takers they'd get for it and secondhand to boot. I shouldn't really be thinking about it... :o

  • No harm in asking, they can either ignore you, tell you no or just maybe they will change their mind and post it.

You could also try offering collection by a carrier but that means the seller will have to to print out an address label and wait in all day for carrier to collect. Its not something I would be prepared to do but others might if they are in most of the day anyway.

Does the listing mention anything about delivery? Spotted something local to me that im not sure if its what i want. Its an older model and very very heavy. They state in the listing no postage and no courier collection either.

I would imagine asking them would just have them shaking their head and possibly clicking block.

  • Anyone that asks me about postage on collection only items, go straight to the blocked list.

I always state "please don't ask about delivery, as it is not possible", anyone that is unable to understand that is likely to be trouble further down the line.
  • The listing is literally just one line - "This is a set of used widgets in sizes...". They've also put in a barcode for a different widget I think because there is a whole bunch of details about something else and a stock photo, but I think it's clear enough what they're selling.

The item would be fine in the post to be clear - RM small parcel or medium depending on weight and not at all fragile. Obviously if seller doesn't want the hassle of posting that's fine, but I'm not sure it'll sell. It isn't local to me so I can't collect. Maybe I'll wait until nearer the end of the listing to ask?
  • I have asked a few of times and sometimes the seller agrees to post if I pay a bit over the cost, often by them making a paypal request.
I even bought two lovely leather chairs that were C on C only by contacting the seller. I found a courier, the seller wrapped them and I paid the seller the full price plus the courier cost plus a bit for their trouble.
Well worth it we now have two Stressless chairs in mint condition for less than half the new price.
    So it is worth asking.
  • ^^ offer to pay a bit extra to account for their extra time and packing.

I have also asked a few times thought never would it there was a statement like simpsons puts in the listing. Some people have just not replied (I am fine with that, I only ask once and never chase if I don't get a response) others have come back quoting postage costs.

To those saying they would immediately block me, I wouldn't ever know if I was blocked or not, if no reply I don't bid and I doubt that I would ever want to buy from that person again.
