Can I use treated sawn timber for pergola

I’m planning a small pergola in the garden and was looking at 4x4” wooden fence posts as the uprights and cross beams, treated sawn posts look good value for money but a rather crude finish. Could I use them and sand them for a better finish?
And could they be painted black or grey with an exterior wood paint, or is it not that simple?

Yes, I’ve make a large pergola using standard sawn wood. I ran a sander over the posts for a few minutes and then painted them with wood preservative and it’s still going strong 8 years later0

I was thinking of doing the same thing but instead of sanding using an electric planer on the timber. I've decided its a job to do next year.0

Thanks guys
Freezspirit, i thought about a planer but have never used one, and didnt want to end up with a banana shaped piece of wood0 -
If you know anyone with a Selco account, they do treated timber in an Easi Edge finish. So all the corners are slightly rounded for easy of handling and appearance. Ditto remarks above.... quick sand and paint any colour using garden paint. Good luck0
