Mini fridge motor sometimes makes TV power off and on!

I've got a mini fridge on the same floor as my TV, but on different sockets (not even the same pair) however, when the fridge motor turns itself off, the TV occasionally powers off and powers back on quickly.

Can anyone tell me what might be up? Is it the fridge? The TV? There's about six devices on the same socket as the TV, but only the TV flicks off.

What makes you think it's the fridge causing this? Was everything ok before you plugged in the fridge? What happens when the fridge is unplugged, does the to work ok?

I would be less concerned about the fridge plugged into one socket and more the fact of 6 devices all using a single socket (do you mean all 6 are running off of one socket or it's a double socket with 3 devices each?) I know extension leads allow for multiple devices but 6 from a single socket seems a lot to me.

Try powering the tv through a surge protector lead or plug

(also available from other outlets) :)

I had a similar problem with a light sensor (PIR) occasionally triggering my house alarm. Running the alarm unit through a surge protector cured the problem.

Provided the 6 items draw less than 13 amps in total, there should be no problem.

Does the TV really go on and off (can you hear a relay in it click off and back on)? or does the picture/sound freeze/break up? or ?

It sound like the fridge thermostat cutting in/out to run/stop the compressor motor is causing interference to the TV signal. It would suggest the suppression device in the fridge is faulty or has gone faulty and failed. Needs a look at (probably a replacement of the part).

Are you using an outside aerial, or what as that may have a bearing on the TVs susceptibility to interfering signals?

It's an outside aerial - and I can hear the fridge click/the motor stop. The TV picture doesn't break up, the whole screen goes momentarily black as if the TV's been turned off, then back on again.

I actually won the fridge for free in a competition (it's one of those beer can can ones, about half a metre by half a metre) but I wasn't planning on chucking it out unless I was sure.
