Renting movies on Youtube, on the TV?

Just wondering how you do this?
I've browsed YouTube on a Windows PC and noticed movies for rent. That's how i discovered you could rent movies on YouTube.
So i went on to the TV in the living room since a large TV in a living room is going to be better than a small monitor in a box room for watching a movie.
Opened up the apps on the TV & went to the YouTube app. Searched the movie & tried to watch it but it just says you need to purchase it.
Yes, obviously, but i'd like to know how. It just didn't tell me.
So i signed in to my account to see if this would make it easier yet it still didn't work. I searched the movie through the phone (YouTube app on iPhone) but once again when clicking it it just says you need to purchase it.
Yes, obviously. I'm not trying to get it for free but how on earth do you watch it? Preferably on the TV!
In the end i went to the Amazon Prime app on the TV, searched the movie & streamed/rented it that way. Cost £1.00 extra than YouTube but it was straight forward.

Is it a desktop pc or a laptop? If a lappy you could hook it up with a HDMI cable or use your phone with the an appropriate cable possibly or cast/screen mirror it.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . You need to sign in/create account to purchase
You should be able to sign in on PC & purchase there
Then sign in on TV Youtube app with the same account0 -

They did that, it didn't work. OP, did you get a screen telling you you had to log onto your Youtube account and enter a code displayed on your TV screen to pair the TV to your Youtube account? Instructions and where you need to enter the code is here:

The laptop is:Lenovo ThinkPad L530 Laptop, Intel Core i5 3210M 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" HD LED, DVDRW, Intel HD, Webcam, Bluetooth, FPR, Windows 7 Professional 64
I don't really know what you were saying at the end there but my laptop has no HDMI ports. Only USB.
So i'll have to buy the movie through the computer (be it laptop or desktop) and then view it through the TV?I was wary of this as i didn't want to buy it on the computer and then be unable to view it on anything other than the computer.
I don't see why the TV version of YouTube doesn't have the same capabilities as the desktop version. Even on mobile i was unable to purchase the movie and i don't understand why. I thought everything was gearing towards mobiles and tablets these days??ballyblack wrote: »You need to sign in/create account to purchaseJustAnotherSaver wrote: »So i signed in to my account to see if this would make it easier yet it still didn't work. You should be able to sign in on PC & purchase there
As just said above, i was reluctant to do this in case i could then only view it on the PC.OP, did you get a screen telling you you had to log onto your Youtube account and enter a code displayed on your TV screen to pair the TV to your Youtube account? I had to open the YouTube app on the phone and then click to pair or something to that effect and then it auto signed me in on the TV. Even after this i couldn't purchase the movie on either TV or iPhone.
Am i supposed to subscribe to the channel that does YouTube movies? I can't see what difference it makes whether i'm subscribed or not as surely i should be able to pay even if i'm not a subbed member.0 -

"Smart TV (2012 models and later)
Movies, TV shows, and live events
You can watch purchased movies, TV shows, and live events by signing into the YouTube app on your smart TV and navigating to Purchases."

That's what this YouTube help page implies:

All seems a bit daft. I'd have thought these Smart TVs would be able to purchase a movie just the same way you can on a desktop. Not so smart after all i guess.0 -

The smart part is the TV not the Youtube app.0 -

Another thing i found strange was when on the desktop yesterday i was able to search for movies and found the YT channel "YouTube Movies".
Search for it on the iPhone & it doesn't appear to exist.0
