Council tax on moving into new house

This is probably a silly question but I can't find anything online about it. Me and my partner are moving into our first home next Friday and are looking at what were going to have to pay out straight away. We want to pay our council tax outright but are wondering how much of the annual council tax we would have to pay. We are council tax C in Hillingdon which is about 1250 per year. As we are moving in almost half way through the year would we pay what is left of the year? this makes sense to me but councils do work in funny ways just want to check so we know exactly how much we will paying out. Thank you!!

the legal position is very simple ...

council tax is a DAILY charge and applies for the council tax year 1st April to the following 31 March

As it is not yet 31 December, the council should offer you the option to pay by monthly instalments covering the amount due between the date you moved in up to 31 March 19.

The standard instalment plan would cover only up to January (max of 10 instalments between April and Jan). Ask them to spread this years payments to March - if they won't then just ask that they put you on the statutory 12 month instalment plan and then they have to spread the payments.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

You only pay for what is left of the year. You should also get anything back that you've overpaid on your current property. If you've moved in the same council area like we did, they simply transferred the overpayment to the new bill.
