High usage desperate help

I'm really hoping someone can help me.....

I have been fighting with British Gas for a year now and I don't know what to do anymore? My monthly direct debit went from £159 a month to £350 a month. When this happened I stopped my direct debits and asked for an explanation??
When I first called BG they asked me if I had a 6 bedroom detached property with a swimming pool and an electric fence. I explained to them that I live in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom FLAT with 1 other person. We both work during the days and are there only on weekends and some evenings. We cook maybe 3 to 4 times a week.

They agreed that is was very very high usage and that there must be a problem. They came out, checked the metres and changed them. They still found that our usage hadn't changed and was extremely high for how we live. They then suggested that we install smart meters which have subsequently made our bills even higher ( as they are more accurate, so they say)
We can not work out what is sucking up our gas and electricty?? I thought it was an appliance but they all checked out fine. Maybe a neighbour is also using our supply?
Please somebody help, I don't know how to work this out? Who can I call to help me with this problem?
British Gas are now saying with what we consume our bills for gas and electric will be £211 per month!!! Everyone I know who is in a simliar living situation pay between £80 and £100 per month.
I'm pulling my hair out and don't know what to do next??
Any advice would be so very much appreciated!
Thank you

  • How many other flats in the same block as you?
Where is your meter? Is it located with other meters?
Do you know precisely which meter is yours?

Forget £ what is your actual consumption in kwh please.

Look back on your bills and find one marked actual, read your meters now and post the info.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    High means nothing.

Please provide details. How much are you using? (from actual reads, which should be easy to get online if you are on a smart meter).

How if the property heated. I am assuming electric since it's a flat, but you don't mention it and heating is the biggest cost for a house, electric heating being 3 times that of gas.

Any other big uses of electric. With a smart meter and a display unit you should easily see when useage occurs.

It looks like the OP is not that desperate - he/she has made no reply to the suggestions made.
