Q about car insurance/house hunting
I've heard something before about how if you request too many car insurance quotes with different details it can be flagged up as potentially dodgy from a fraud angle.
Is that actually true?
Currently house hunting and I'd quite like to get car insurance quotes for some of the areas, as I had a bit of a shock when we moved to our current rental from my parents house!

It's possible.
How wide are you house-hunting? The variation in risk won't be anywhere near as granular as individual postcode level - it's probably no finer than the bit before the space. Common sense will also give a reasonable indication...0 -
Yes, my daughter got some quotes on a comparison site using our address and her boyfriends address.
When she took out the policy, the insurance company contacted her asking why there were two potential addresses. She had to send off proof of where she was living.
You should be ok as long as you're truthful with the final address given.0 -
Thanks both.
Our current postcode is HX, and we're looking at M6 and M27. I've looked at the crime stats but there's a lot of variation within the postcode areas and my assessment of what looks high/low risk might be very different to an insurance company view.
I recently made a no-fault claim on a 3rd party's insurance, so I did four searches then; with/without accident (to see what impact it had had) and with/without my husband as a named provisional driver. My insurer are already aware of the accident.
My insurance renews on the 1st November, and I would be amazed if we'd bought a house and would be at the new address by then. I could ask my insurance company to give me an indication though rather than doing the searches myself, as I'll be speaking to them about their renewal quote anyway.0 -
Our current postcode is HX, and we're looking at M6 and M27.
HX varies between C (HX6, Sowerby Bridge et environs) and F* (HX1, HX3, both within Halifax itself), with the rest being E*
M6 is "Refer", M27 is F*
Higher is worse, "Refer" means many insurers will probably just pass on it.
So, on that basis, the better bits will be similar to the worse bits of Halifax, while the worse bits will be much higher, at best.0 -
Brill thank you! I will have a nosy at that this evening :beer:0

Can you not just use made up details on the comparison websites to get a rough idea of costs?“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
