PAYE late again nightmare!

Hi guys,
I'm hoping some of you adults that know how to adult can give me some advice on the following issue:
I'm employed on an above average salary for my job, have a company car, get on well with all my colleagues and boss. My boss has always said I'm in charge when hes not in etc but im not an official supervisor. I am constantly being told by boss and customers that the company will really struggle if i left.
Now the problems: I am constantly expected to work past the official finish time, work Saturdays which are 50% forgotten to be paid and will be 'added onto next month' which never happens. My pay is literally always late. Last months pay still hasn't been paid so its currently 28 days late. this has caused me serious money problems in the past and I am now on a debt management plan (fml). I feel like I'm trapped as I'm always owed £2-3000 which i cant afford to loose if i leave. (99% likely I wouldn't get the final months pay)
My boss always seems to send me to deal with customers when he knows there is a problem and someone is going to get told off because 'im good at dealing with it'
For some reason I feel bad/scared/anxious about leaving even though all the above issues + having a major impact on my wife and kids with all the money problems and late finishes.
should i feel bad if i leave? what would you do? I'm nervous that itl be out of the frying pan and into the fire. I'm 28 if there is any relevance. I often wonder if I'm actually being pushed out? other staff get paid late etc but I am ALWAYS the last one to get paid even though I'm the only one with kids wife mortgage.
any advice at all is welcomed as i feel stuck between a rock and a hard place!:eek:

You're being walked all over.
Look for another job.
OR
Stop doing the 'extras'. Start the conversation with 'I am no longer prepared to work over my contracted hours for no pay.'
Is the business in difficulties hence the inability to pay wages on time?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

i think he doesnt know how to prioritise spending and money, he has a lot of personal outgoings that even i know about probably more that i dont. i think he pulls an enormous salary that the companys income cant handle.
I need to at least stop doing overtime for nothing. My problem is i feel obliged to give customers the service they wouldnt get at all if I wasnt doing it.0 -

The graveyards are full of indispensable people.
More seriously, have you ever thought about doing an assertiveness course? At the moment you are in the position of the proverbial doormat and the only thing which will change that is if YOU change. Your boss has no interest at all in changing his behaviour, since you are demonstrably putting up with it - which reinforces and reconfirms his belief that he can stay with the status quo.0 -
i had no idea there was such a thing! i will certainly look into it as I really do get walked over by everybody in a position to do so i just roll over. Would you have left by now?0

Would you have left by now?
Personally, no - if you're on an above average salary for your job, you may struggle to earn the same basic salary else and in another role, there may be no overtime at all. Taking these two factors into account, you'd potentially be worse off than you are.
What exactly is stopping you from being paid correctly? Is it that the boss simply isn't signing off the extra hours, or could there be an administrative issue somewhere? How come you're being 'paid last' - doesn't everyone get paid on the same day each month?0 -
The company has only got 8 employees. The pay issues arise because of consistently bad cash flow and late paying customers. It feels like i am lowest priority for payment all the time!0

Has this been an issue for a while, or just recently?0

Personally me for the peace of mind and health even if it was a small paycut I'd move without bothering to talk to the boss again, he's talked rubbish once he will only do it again.
But on the flip side, don't take all that 'wouldn't work without' you comments to heart, the vast vast majority of times the person leaves and the company moves on without them just fine.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Sounds like the company is about to go bust.
Stop working overtime for nothing, you are being walked all over.
The customers may need the help but tell them firmly you work, 9 to 5 or what ever, get your gear / bag/ lunch box / what everand go home at knock off time.
If your boss is pulling a large salary, he needs to think of his staff first.
Have a chat with him, and ask for your pay on time.
I would also suggest you get your CV updated, so you are ready for when they go bust, be prepared to be out of a job and him still owe you pay, which you are unlikely to ever see, as you will be way down the list, with HMRC / VAT folk want their money first.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles
