EDF and Lowell Pre Legal Assessment Letter

Hi..
Hope you can help - Lowell have been chasing me for an EDF energy debt from my old address.. they’ve sent a pre legal assessment letter offering 50% discount making £140 payable. My main question is this does NOT appear on any of my credit files as a default or late payment. If I pay the £140 will they then enter that on my file as a new partially paid default? Or will it just not appear on my file and they go away as I’ve paid?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks. Noah.

Have you had proof that you actually owe the debt?
Have you sent them a prove it letter - a available from the stickies at the top of the board - asking them to pro e you owe the alleged debt?
Have you had an actual breakdown of what the alleged bill is for?0 -
Hi.. thanks for response. To be honest I probably do owe it but want to pay it as I don’t want my file trashed for the sake of £140.
I’m just querying as it’s not on any credit file now will Lowell then enter it on them as paid? Or will the files be left alone as they are now?
Thanks. Noah.0 -
Some energy providers do share information on your credit file, some do not.
If nothing in regard to this debt is visible now on your file, paying off Lowell will not change that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Ah thanks that’s what I thought.. I shall just pay the £140 and be done with it.
Thanks for assistance.

If it’s over 6 years old it’s statute barred and not enforceable.0

Hi it’s about 4 years old.. Just going to pay as it’s not on my file.. at least no more letters etc.
Thanks.0 -
If you believe its yours, paying it off with a discount will get rid of it - don't see any point delaying by sending prove-it letters and SB if its not the case.
EDF don't report to CRA (some energy companies like BG do but many don't), but cannot confirm if they do report defaulted accounts. Only the original creditor can put a default on the file, Lowell just change it over to their name. So if there is no default showing, then this will not change now it is with Lowells.0
