I have bought several cars from AC over the years never had a problem.

I dont jump to the forums to tell people they have GOT to buy a car from them.

One would imagine, been as big as they are, they will get a large number of complaints - do we think as a % of their number of sales, it is possible that they have the same as other car retailers? Probably. But people will just focus on the numbers not the proportion of complaints to actual happy customers.

Anyway, you would need to get your auto spark put an official report together and start a MCOL against them.

I’ve had a couple of cars from them, too, with no complaints, but a lot probably depends on the branch, the branch manager and the local branch history, which all contribute to the culture, customer service and attention to detail of the individual outlet. It’s the same with any retail chain.

Buying a used car always carries with it an element of risk, regardless of who you buy it from.
  • I sympathise having also experienced a costly lesson after purchasing from Arnold Clarke. Arnold Clarke took no final responsibility for a fault which first displayed symptoms from purchase. We were assured that the problem was fixed, that was until the resultant catastrophic failure resulted in the car being written off. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN!!.

Whilst they do have a reputation, I've genuinely had two successful purchases from them.
  • The majority of cars AC sell are probably ok. It's the aftersales if you have any issues. They take your money and stuff you. Never bought a car from them for about 25yrs.

Just anecdotally, I bought a car for £4k, no issues, until I crashed it (oops) but the valuation from insurance came out to £4200. After excess I was still £50 up :)

The second vehicle did have a problem with a small oil leak, the seal had split or had been misfitted when they did their pre-sale service. Booked in next day, 1 hour in their shop and I was good to go - free coffee too.

Again I know these are not everyone's experiences.
