Hi, a bit of advice needed, this is all new to me as I (like to think) i am smart with money.
I have been going out with someone a while who has some small debt from a previous relationship.
Its a John Lewis Partnership card in default ~£3700 but has been in default for over 2 years.
They have been upfront about everything and I have gone over their noddle report with a fine tooth comb too.
They say they have not seen any letters to their address about it (address is correct on noddle) but all they say is that it was frozen, they have not paid anything off since the default.
Why is it not accruing interest and charges (or has it?)
They are now in a position fortunately (through hard work, new job etc) of paying most if not all of this off, obviously their credit rating is trashed but thats not a concern as they wont be applying for loans/CC/mortgage.
Clearly I told them they expect to have to pay all of it off, but is there chance of John Lewis (or HSBC as its ran by I believe) making some offer? Why has it not been chased after all this time, or passed to a recovery company? Bailiffs?
Lastly this debt was ran up by this persons other half at the time, what are the chances of using small claims court to chase them to pay it (I have patience and determination) It was not a joint card.

Interest has been frozen as it has defaulted.
Your friend needs to contact them if she wants to make an offer to settle.
There are no joint cards. The debt is the responsibility of the account holder.0
