Child benefit and non advanced education

Hi everyone. I've joined this website and I'm hoping for an answer from you guys as I've searched Google until I'm blue in the face and can't find an answer. Brief background, my ex partner hates me as I dared to leave her after years of abuse and she has also turned my daughter against me. Neither of them will give me any information as to what my daughter is up to. My daughter turned 18 in June and finished a two year college course around the same time that she started after her GCSE's. My daughter is now advertising a business she is running from home on Facebook. I have only found this out through friends and Facebook. I am obviously paying maintenance through the CMS and have recently queried whether the ex is still claiming child benefit. I have been told by the CMS that the ex is still claiming child benefit as my daughter has started another non advanced college course. I find this hard to believe as my daughter has posted on FB that she didn't want to do the course she has just finished and also as she is running an online business. My question is can my ex still legally claim child benefit because my daughter has signed up for another non advanced course whether my daughter actually attends/completes the course or is the fact my daughter has signed up enough in law even if my daughter does not attend any classes/lessons? Thanks in advance for any information/past experiences.

If the child benefit department is statisfied that the course is ok and they are paying then there isn't much you can do.
However if your daughter is removed from the course because of non attendance then this may be a different matter and child benefit should be informed.“You’re only here for a short visit.
