I can see your point.......except for a couple major points: the ebay seller is rarely the manufacturer, and the guarantee should be with the manufacturer. If my company closed tomorrow, then all of our customers would still be covered by the manufacturers warranty.

Also if you are buying anything expensive then it would be silly not to do a bit of research:

    1) Ask for the sellers company number, registered address, and VAT number.
    2) Check their ebay history to see how long they have been trading, and check their feeback right back to when they started.
    3) Are they a power seller?
    4) Ask previous buyers what they think of the seller and the products.
    5) Allways make sure you can get a land line phone number, and actually talk to the seller.
    6) Don't buy seconds that have had their labels removed, as these won't be covered by the manufacturers warranty.
    7) Check the sellers return policy. Many sellers charge for postage on returns.....can work out very expensive if you have unpacked a vacuum packed mattress, and you don't like it.
    8) Try to use a seller who delivers using their own transport. Couriers often damage or misplace goods (believe me I know from experience).
    9) Most important of all make sure that the seller gives a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I'd also like to remind you that large companies also go bust, like Furnitureland, Courts.....etc.

If you purchase extended warranty then this is usually through an insurance company, not the actual seller.

When I tried to get a faulty sofa either repaired or replaced at DFS, they told me that they couldn't fix it so they would have to replace it. They then said that because it had been used for 18 months (the guarantee was for 2 years, and the fault was first reported after just 2 months) then I would have to pay a huge lump of the replacement.

There are a few dodgy sellers on ebay, but there are also many on the high street, but please don't tar us all with the same brush. If you stick to the guide lines that I have given, then you should be perfectly safe shopping on ebay.

Many people are wary about internet based companies, and think that if they can sell so cheap, then there must be a catch. The truth is that they sell so cheap because they don't have the overheads of running a showroom.
How would you know who the manufacturer is? this information is not necessaraly given by the seller.
you know as well as i that Guarantees are with the seller, not the manufacturer, supposing you are using the SOG act, even if you could get the manufacturers name he wouldnt want to know, but if you couldnt trace the seller...........
A "Few" dodgy sellers on E-Bay, yeh, like about 5000.
PS what your site on E-bay called? i might just want to buy a bed.

pps why did you buy from DFS if your in the trade?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Ask......if they won't tell you, then don't buy from them.

No the guarantee is with the manufacturer who should exchange any faulty goods as long as you have proof of purchase. Most bed manufacturers give a 12 month guarantee.

Sometimes a seller will offer an extended warranty, but this is often an insurance policy.

If you follow my guidlines then you should be ok.

I had someone recently who used our bulky item delivery service, and tried making a fraudulent insurance claim, but I caught him out.

I'm afraid I can't say on here as it would be classed as advertising.

Yeah ok, I'm an idiot..........but I did threaten legal action, and to stand outside the store telling people that DFS's sofas only last a few months. And just to prove that I would do it, I told 2 ladies that right in front of the manager.

I don't actually have many contacts in the sofa trade. I stay away from them as they are difficult to deliver.
