Arnold Clark warranty issue

Hello. Two months ago I bought a car from Arnold Clark with 2 months warranty. I took the car back before warranty expired because when I went abroad I noticed that the steering wheel shakes at 80 miles per hour just under aceleration and not if I take my foot of the gas. I have 4 new tires checked by two different shops. Arnold Clark are saying that because they can't test the car above the 70 miles/h legal limit in UK they cannot recreate the problem. I will take my car on vacation again and it does not feel save over 70 miles. This is a 2011 vw Tiguan so it does not seem right to end hp with a car that will only do 70 miles. Is there anything I can do? Thank you

How did you get your tyres checked and which "shops" did you go to? What did they actually do to test them?
Removed all 4 tyres, checked the alloys on a balancer, inspected each one carefully, weighted all 4 without tyres?
Then you need to check steering components, suspension, hubs, bearings, brake discs etc etc.

Or just drive at less than 80 mph, it's not compulsory, even in Germany.

The alternative is to take it to a garage that has a rolling road that will allow higher speed testing to be done.

Did they sell you a car fit for use only within the UK?

This is their problem, not yours. Ask them the question I raised above, and see what they say. Feels to me as if they are taking the easy and cheap way out of addressing the issue.

Yeah, sell you a car that can do over 100mph and when there is an issue above the national speed limit use that as an excuse why they cannot test it.

  • They can't really recreate those conditions again though.....legally.

They can spin the wheel up with a roller with the right sort of balancer. Lots of places used to use those in the old days. Had a look online and they call it "road force balancing" these days.
Or put it on a rolling road (I assume), which would prove / disprove the problem.
  • They checked the tire balance twice. This happened even with old tires. Because they cannot recreate the problem under 70 miles they say all is ok with the car...
  • If they have another Tiguan there then get them to swap all 4 wheels over and go for a drive - if it does the same then its not the wheels.

Agreed but they can do it safely, even for 10 seconds - they just dont want to.

If they refuse to rectify the problem then reject the car, you have given them a chance to repair it.
