Thanks for the responses - I think the £10 off £30 google checkout thing has ended today, but sounds like a hard drive that size would be too big anyway from what everyone has said.
Hi DonnyI wondered if I might get a telling off  The truth is we have so many pics/clips on here that I daren't do it! I know it sounds ridiculous, but I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to transferring these pics onto disc. I have a few CD-R which say they take 700mb/80mins of stuff, I'm transferring it from Finepix, a Fuji programme that came with the camera. I tried a while ago and it didn't work, I just haven't dared try since in case I think I've done it and then end up not having done it right and losing everything. I have a feeling it would take concentration, which is not easy when my little uns are pulling at the wires, etc.
I doubt that the place I got the memory from would take it back - it crashed from day one, but I figured it was something I'd done...the returns form they sent me mentions it needs to be returned within 14 days of receipt of the returns form. Ho hum. In between trying to help Si out, get the website set up, etc, it got left and left. I know, must try harder..it's just chaos here to be honest! So that's where we stand at the mo. I'd love to sit and get the whole thing sorted out, but I'm worried that it may be a little beyond me

Although you view the pictures in the Fuji programme, it's irrelevant to the backing up process.
The pictures themselves (most likely jpg's) will be stored in a folder (or tree of folders) somewhere on your hard drive. It is likely you can see where this is from the options or settings part of your fuji programme but they won't be difficult to find. My guess would be something like "My Documents/My Pictures/Fuji/Pictures" but you may have to hunt around. Once you have found where they are back up a folder to the folder which holds everything and copy that folder (right click, copy or drag) to another place (i.e. into your cd/dvd writing tool, another hard drive or memory stick) and voila, backup done.0
