Ultra sensitive burglar alarm mat

The door to our back garden is in a utility room off the kitchen and is not visible from the kitchen. This was a problem when our last dog wanted let us know that he needed to go out to water the geranium.
We solved it by putting an alarm mat by the door which he learned to stand on to alert us to his need.
Our current dog is a lot smaller and at 6kg he is not heavy enough to trigger the alarm. The only mats I can find on the internet need a minimum weight of 11kg.
Does anyone know where I can find a more sensitive one?

Don’t your dogs bark? Mine won’t shut up if they want to go out :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

My dogs just sit by the door too expecting me to be physic. Sorry, don't know where to source a more sensitive mat though.Spend less now, work less later.0

I don't think you are going to be able to find a suitable alarm mat, as they are actually designed with the weight limit so that they ignore pets and are only triggered by a human.
You need another solution. I had a quick look and you can get an alarm that is activated if an infrared beam is broken. Again the issue will be whether the dog will break the beam for long enough to activate the alarm. I think you might be able to make this work if you mount the beam at the dog's chest height. Look for reviews of the product to see if anyone else has tried to use it with pets or buy from a retailer that will let you return the item if it doesn't work for you.
I also mentioned you problem to my partner who suggested that you might be able to pre-weight your existing mat by putting something weighing a few Kg on it, like a heavy mat or a large floor tile. Not sure you will be able to find something heavy enough though. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Left field question .. could you not put a 6k weight (object) on the mat, so the dog standing on the mat will take it over the 11kg alarm limit? The only place where success comes before work is the dictionary…

He only barks at visitors and the postman - haven't found a way to get him to bark at the back door.
Have tried a sensor but the very high pitched warble just frightens him away from the door.
I like the idea of preloading 6kg. Suggestions for something suitable would be very welcome.
How expensive is lead . . . . . . .:exclamati0 -
Something like this if you can get it shipped to UK.
