    Sounds a bit Chinese Whispers.

Once your claim was underway with Admiral, then - yes - those are your two options. However, option 1 would see your excess repaid and NCB reinstated when the other driver's insurer accepted liability and paid.

Option 2 would see you on the hook for the hire car cost if the other driver's insurance did not accept liability and pay.

The other option - claim direct from the third party's insurer - was available, but you chose to claim from your insurer instead.

Then your eligibility for a hire car ends when your car is declared a write-off.

It's up to you to buy yourself a car, not them to provide one. If the payout offered is not what you think fair, then you can escalate it to the ombudsman.

That ship has sailed, now that your claim on your own policy is under way.

That's not our experience with a no fault write off!We had a hire car through till an offer was made for the car value, we accepted then the money was transferred the next day. Then we were told we had (up to) 7 further days hire to find another suitable replacement.

All of this was through our own insurers who were ( correctly) confident they could claim it back from other party's insurance.

Your insurer may well have had a clause in your policy Ts & Cs saying "We'll give you a hire car for a week after", as a marketing thing. It's just one of many reasons why buying insurance on price alone is a terrible idea.
