Fitting new kitchen cabinet knobs?

Afternoon all,

Ok, so I'm about to demonstrate that I know nothing about DIY!

My wife has new handle for the kitchen units. They've come with a threaded screw that's too long and touches the built in appliances so the door won't shut completely.

Is the only fix to buy shorter bolts?
The old one's are too narrow to refit onto the new knobs.

Sorry for what must be a stupid question!!!:embarasse

Shorter screws are cheap as chips, or a hacksaw to cut the screws down, they often have weak points built in. If the old screws are slightly smaller they could be taped to create a tighter fit, masking tape would do it.

google 'snap off screws' - available from Screwfix, ebay etc, just make sure you get the correct diameter
  • Just my 2 pence worth - if you do end up hacksawing the screws (I would) then screw the nut on first. That way, the nut will clean up the thread where you've sawed and it will be easier to get the nut back on again afterwards.
