Voluntary termination and MOT expiry date
Hello Dear all Users
I am new to this helpful forum.
My HP finance will be at 50% point in 6 weeks (2 more payments). The car is already worth less than what I owe.
My MOT is due in 22 days. Last MOT was no advisories.
What is your thoughts on following 2 courses of action:;
1) pay 2 installments right away and write VT letter now, before MOT expires (what if they don't collect it for 22 days or longer?
2) take car through MOT and execute VT in 6 week
I don't know what is best from legal point of view. Finance left on the car will be circa 3600 GBP at VT point, car is Vauxhall Insignia , 2009 plate, worth 2.5/3k GBP.
Will the car pass? I don't know. I can't see underside (bushing, break lines).

You will need an MOT you can go and get it done now, then VT when it suits you best.0

You can VT at anytime - you will just be liable for 50% of the total cost of purchasing the car.
MOT's are £40 ish - is there any reason why the car wont pass this year?0 -
If you can't "see underside (bushing, break lines)" how are a bunch of internet users meant to know if the car will pass without even seeing it?0
-
Thank you for reply. It should pass, but if it does not, I will end investing money into something that I have to hand over a few days later. It may well be as you said, 40 ish and job done.0

Hi , and thank you for pointing this out. What I meant , was to say that I cannot see certain elements of the vehicle thus cannot make a judgement myself, but I don't expect anyone to answer to that. In case of a court case, would Judge expect me to check underneath and be technically minded?0

What are your plans to replace it? Why are you wanting to hand it back?
From your original post, all I can see is that you are worried about it failing it's MOT...? Although quite why you think this is not clear...?
What did you buy the car for, and what are the terms of your HP finance?0 -
If you don't MOT it, they will, and if it fails bill you for repairs as they will say that you have failed to maintain the car properly.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
