Young persons car insurance help

Please can anyone help. We have a car, which is in my daughters name, but she is now at Uni, and doesn't need it. My son has just passed his test and needs the car to get to work. After 3 days of searching for quotes, I spoke to Aviva who said the car has to go in my daughters name for Insurance purposes with my son as main driver. So we now have quotes for £9,000.
Does anyone know the best thing to do in the circumstances. Would it be best to put the car in my sons name, but if I do, could he not drive it until the new log book comes. Any advice would be most welcome TIA

Yeah out the V5 in your sons name - he can insure it straight away.0

You can do the owner change online in minutes.

Someone else should confirm but I think the tax becomes invalid on a keeper change. You’ll (daughter) will get a refund for whole unused months but son would have to pay for today onwards.0

How much is the insurance if it's in his name? What about the daughter's NCD?
You may find it's cheaper to buy, tax and insure a £300-500 car just for him, and he's building up his own NCD in his own car...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
£9000????
Have you tried Direct Line.?
Our daughter was paying £600 as a provisional driver which went down as soon as she passed. Her next renewal was even less and her last one was £360. She is 22.0 -

What car is it?
We had some really ridiculous quotes when looking for a car that son and daughter would share.
Son passed test 1 month beforehand and daughter had 12 months.
We found that registering the car in sons name and getting insurance in his name with daughter as a named driver was FAR cheaper for some reason where we fully expected this to be the most expensive option! Its a Toyota Aygo by the way - black box policy £1200/year (or precisely £100/month on an interest free credit card we took out just for this)
Isnt 'fronting' either as daughter away at Uni for a large chunk of the year.
hope this helps.0 -

That’s unusual. It normally goes UP when the test is passed, as an unsupervised new driver is a much higher risk.0 -
Well at least find out how much it would be for your son to insure if the car and policy were in his name. If it is also £9000 then there's no point changing ownership.
How was he getting to work previously? Might be a lot cheaper to carry on as before.0
