New Job Offer - tax credits

I am currently employed for 9 hours a week and also work self employed. I have been offered a temporary position with another employer for 3 hours a week. I am a sigle parent of one child (9) and curren;ty receive Housing and council tax benefits, woring and child tax credits and child benefit.


This will be a term time only job but only until christmas so effectively will only have one week "off". I will be paid for the hours I actually work raher than pro rata. The addition of this work on my cv will hopefully be great going forward as I am looking to move soley into full time term time work in the future.

My questions are:

Will this trigger a new claim/move to UC?

If those hours increased (there is scope to) to above the next tax credit level (24-30) would they trigger a change?

If there will not be a change an someone explain how those benfits will be affected by term time work.

    No. You just need to notify the local authority and HMRC about the change to your income so that your existing benefits can be recalculated.

    Housing benefit and CTR are calculated on a weekly basis so they will reduce while you have additional income.

    Tax Credits are calculated on an annual basis. This is usually based on the previous year's income unless the current year income differs from the previous year by more than £2,500 up or down so whether your current Tax Credits will be affected will depend on last year's income and your likely total for the current year.Additional income this year will affect your tax credits for next year as they will be based on this year's income (unless there i likely to be a change of more than £2,500).
    Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
