Cut up credit card but want to return item

Options
Hi All

Wonder if anyone has been in a similar situation before?

I purchased a couple of items from Zara and at the time thought oh I'll just put them on my credit card, then last week decided to cut my credit card up not thinking anything of the recent items I'd bought.

Now I'd like to return the items and I'm not sure I'll be able to? I didn't really want to exchange them so do you think I'll be able to get a refund on a different card? ... Has anyone done this before?

Thanks...

  • If you have not closed the credit card account, then you will still be able to receive the return credit on to your credit card

I don't think I'll get it before the 28 day return period. Might just have to do an exchange.
  • Sometimes if you take a copy of your credit card statement showing a purchase from that store, that will suffice.
  • They need to enter the card number etc. to process the refund

You'll usually get it in 10 days or so

Isn't the credit card number on the reciept that you'll be taking back into the store for a refund?

Or if it just shows the last four digits take along a statement too.
  • Some stores will insist you present the physical card when asking for a refund, some will just use the info on the receipt.

Get a new card ordered and get down to the store to return the goods ASAP. If they insist on sight of the piece of plastic, tell them that will come later. At least you will have met the time limit for making the return.

You may just have to feel a bit nervous having neither goods nor refund until your new card comes through. So best get some written agreement from the company so that they acknowledge return of the goods and promise to refund you later on when you bring the card in.

    Hi,

When I had this issue with H&M and returning something onto a closed credit card, I had my receipt and they gave me a store card for the value, as I didn't have the card.

Some shops just ask for you to put the card in, I have before put in another card instead and its gone through.
I suppose it depends on the staff in the shop.
