BG Homecare Question re Servicing/Inspection

An engineer will come out and do a mock service and make sure there is nothing wrong with it (and safe) before the contract gets the official go-ahead. If there is he/she may fix it if its a quick thing, or leave a quote.
Just a note, sometimes this gets overlooked and noone will visit for months - but dont worry you will still be covered0 -
As said above the official position is that they will carry out an inspection first, before undertaking to place you on contract.
This is to ensure that your system is in good working order and unlikely to be an uneconomic proposition - for instance a very old and out of production boiler and/or controls and radiators would probably not be placed on contract.
An additional point is that the regulations for installation have changed quite a lot in recent years and the BG fitter told me that they cannot take on systems unless they meet the new regulations.
For instance. I have a separate 'outside' boiler room. The boiler had been serviced by BG for years; but under the new regulations it needed better ventilation. So BG(at their expense) had to cut through the brick wall and insert an 'air brick'. The fitter explained that had I not been on contract, that work would have been required to be completed at my expense before placing me on contract.
Another example in change in regulations is that the flue from the boiler which passes through the garage roof does not meet current regulations; although it is allowed to remain for current installations.
It is not as if my house is ancient - it is less than 20 years old.0
