always take the jeep in for a discounted mot at kwikfit or ats, never had an issue. (Stirling branches)

I usually use Kwik Fit as well - cheaper. None of my two cars has failed in the last 4 or so years. But again, I do take care of them.

Of course, now that I have said none has failed... :D

I phoned Halfords yesterday morning at about 1030 to enquire about my MoT discount code, (8 days since purchase), they took my details and said they would issue another one, at 1630 I received an email from Halfords, part of which reads: Hi there, thank you for shopping at Halfords. You have recently signed up to receive a free MOT at Halfords Autocentre. We're very sorry for the delay, please find your discount code below. Now I do not know if this was my original one late, or a nudge re my phone call in the morning, whatever, my MoT is not until next year so if a second one turns up I shall use the latest of the two.

Went on Monday to the MOT, all went smoothly, passed with no advisories. Result. The tester even said himself that could not see any issues with it.

But I will say again, the car was in very good nick - your experience might vary. Interesting that I did hear a conversation between the employees saying that the stores were instructed to not advertise this due to the very large number of codes already given.
  • I took my car in to Halfords autocentre this week. I had just had the car serviced to get it through the MOT. They failed it on front break disks significantly and obviously worn. I phoned the chap who had serviced it and he said 'no way'. I took it back to him and he took the wheels off (they don't do that in the MOT) and showed me that the discs were fine with plenty of break pad left. Got MOT from my normal centre the next morning. On going back to Halfords the were not interested and just gave me a form to send back to the DVSA. I went to Halfords because I had picked up from Martin's emails that you could get a voucher for a free MOT by buying something from the shop. I hope they don't scam everyone in this way.

Free / cut-price MoT = Fail in my experience; total waste of time.

As per post #6, got my free MOT done today.

Passed with one advisory which was a tyre. So not all free MOTs are designed to scam or be a waste of time. Of course, there may be some places that DO that, fail to generate extra business, but to suggest that ALL garages do it is nonsense.

I never suggested ALL garages, I said 'in my experience' so I have not had the good fortune of a few to get a cheap MoT and a pass.
